If you are one of the many people out there who doesn’t have the time or patience to learn web design and coding, a site building service may just be the right avenue to get your website published. Enter WebsiteBuilder.com, a free site building service with optional paid plans. Keep reading our WebsiteBuilder.com review to see if they might be right for you!
WebsiteBuilder.com is run by the very same people behind sitebuilder.com, sitelio.com, and sitey.com. While these sites may look slightly different on the outside, they all provide the same service: site building in a freemium model.
Although some doubts are raised when comparing them to some of the heavy hitters in the industry such as Wix or Squarespace, WebsiteBuilder.com still does plenty right with hundreds of free templates, a simplistic 1 click site builder, and loads of apps to choose from.

- Hundreds of free templates to choose from
- Rollback feature for site drafts
- Lots of confusion regarding pricing
- Mobile editing requires upgrade
- No e-commerce or e-mail with free service
WebsiteBuilder.com Pricing & Plans
WebsiteBuilder.com keeps pricing simple, as you can signup for a completely free account (with only an e-mail!), although this will obviously mean some advanced options for your site will be limited. E-commerce is completely omitted from WebsiteBuilder.com’s free tier, although we were happy to see the inclusion of an HTML and CSS editor to further modify existing templates.
WebsiteBuilder.com’s free plan includes a domain in the format of yoursitename.my-free.website and your choice of over a 100 free site templates. Unfortunately, this is about where the feature list ends for the free tier, with any further options requiring an upgrade to one of their premium plans.
If you are looking to add any e-mail or marketing features, or looking to remove the WebsiteBuilder.com advertisement banner, you can upgrade to one of their premium plans starting at $7.99 a month.
All of these plans remove the advertisement banner that runs in your website’s footer, while e-commerce support can also be purchased with the eCommerce plan for $11.99 a month. Those looking to build their first website can also take advantage of WebsiteBuilder.com’s Priority support, which comes included with the Business and eCommerce plan.
Keep in mind that all WebsiteBuilder.com’s plans come included with a free domain of your choice, while you also have the protection of a 14-day money back guarantee.
Unfortunately, WebsiteBuilder.com is even more limited in terms of offers when compared to other site building services such as Wix or Squarespace. If you are looking for eCommerce, e-mail newsletters, or any advanced hosting features, you will be forced to either sign up for a premium plan or look elsewhere.
Will your website require any SEO services? WebsiteBuilder.com offers SEO tools for paid users in the form of keyword research, Google SEO tools, and a custom on-site SEO analysis.
WebsiteBuilder.com stay true to their name by offering a simple, yet advanced site builder bundled with over 100 ready to use templates.
Due to the limitations on the free tier, editing your site for mobile requires an upgrade to a premium plan, while this will also remove the advertisement banner that is present in the footer of all WebsiteBuilder.com free sites.
If you are looking to add any e-commerce features to your site (such as Paypal button or online storefront), WebsiteBuilder.com requires you to purchase their eCommerce plan.
The site builder itself is pretty standard, although it is clearly lacking some of the advanced and drag and drop functionality of Wix or Squarespace. We were however, happy to see the inclusion of being able to right-click within the editor, which does improve the overall experience slightly.
WebsiteBuilder.com Customer Service
Any service that advertises a free service is going to be lacking some standard features, with customer service typically being one of the biggest losers in this regard.
While we didn’t go in with high hopes for WebsiteBuilder.com’s customer service for free users, we were happy to see that there is a wide array of customer service options available should you find yourself stuck at any point. E-mail support, an impressive knowledge base, as well as US and international telephone numbers.
WebsiteBuilder.com also offers “Priority Support” for premium customers, although this is rather questionable, especially when they don’t list anywhere on their site what exactly “Priority Support” actually means.
Keep in mind that if you purchase any of their premium plans, you are able to cancel at any time within 14 days to receive a complete refund.
WebsiteBuilder.com Review Conclusion
- Lots of free templates to choose from
- Rollback feature for site drafts
- Right-click site editor
I wasn’t so sure about
- “Priority Support” only for paid customers
- Mobile editing requires an upgrade
- No e-commerce or e-mail features with free service
- Confusion regarding pricing
Is WebsiteBuilder.com the best possible solution when it comes to creating a great page for your growing business? Probably not.
Are they a decent solution if you are just getting started with your first website and don’t have a lot of requirements? Yes, although it’s important to keep a cautious eye to the future of your website. Lots of standard features such as e-mail and e-commerce tools are only included with premium plans, meaning you could potentially end up paying more than with one of our recommended web hosting providers.
