Looking for highly affordable shared hosting? Read our Webhostingpad review to find out if unlimited shared hosting plans starting at $1.99 are right for you!

With the recent emergence of the cloud and it’s rising popularity as both a buzz word and affordable hosting option, many have incorrectly labeled shared hosting as being a technology of the past.

The truth is, however, that shared hosting is far from dead, especially with the affordability and low learning curve that is required. Shared hosting is and will continue to be attractive for those lacking prior web hosting knowledge, people looking to launch mostly static websites, and those looking for hosting on a budget.

Are you someone who is looking for the benefits of shared hosting? The search may be over with Webhostingpad, one of the most affordable shared hosting providers around.

Webhostingpad Pricing & Plans

With a focus on ultra-affordable shared hosting with unlimited storage, bandwidth, and domains, Webhostingpad allows you to get started with their Power Plan for only $1.99 a month. It is worth noting that shared hosting plans from Webhostingpad are not available month-to-month, with various rates depending on the term of your contract.

Webhostingpad offers a free domain name for the first year of service (up to a $14.95 value), although they are a bit sneaky and hid the coupon code for this in their Billing Terms of Service. The “freedomain” coupon code must be used when signing up in order to get your free domain name.

Their are two shared hosting plans to choose from: Power Plan ($1.99 a month) and Power Plan Plus ($3.99 a month), with the main difference being that Power Plan Plus customers enjoy an advanced spam filter, free SSL certificate, advanced web stats, and SSH access.

Webhostingpad’s VPS plans through VPSDepot are available starting at $29.95 a month (six month term), although these also have varying pricing depending on your term (jumps to $39.95 for a single month term), while a managed VPS option is also available at $99 a month.

There are also three WordPress hosting plans starting at $2.99 a month that are based on monthly visitor counts. These servers are specifically customized with CloudFlare CDN, CloudLinux OS, and expert WP support for optimum WordPress performance.

Unfortunately, one of the major drawbacks with Webhostingpad are the account renewal fees and increased rates that hit when your introductory term expires. Of course the company doesn’t state this out in the open, instead rather sneakily hiding it in the depths of their Terms of Service.

Webhostingpad Speed & Reliability

One of the main drawbacks with Webhostingpad is that they only have a 99% up time guarantee, which considering other provider’s guarantees is quite low (For example, Siteground and Digital Ocean have a 99.99% up time guarantee in their SLA). Webhostingpad’s reimbursement policy gives you one month of credit per eight hours of downtime that exceeds the 99% mark.

With Webhostingpad mainly being a budget provider, if you are looking for the top speeds for your website, you might be better off trying a premium hosting provider such as TMDHosting or FastComet.

Webhostingpad is mostly geared towards American customers with a single Chicago data center running the show, being built on dual RAID servers for optimum speed and performance. For additional reliability, Webhostingpad’s data center is backed up by uninterrupted power, fire suppression, HVAC ventilation, and redundant network connectivity.

For WordPress hosting customers, Webhostingpad solves the potential problem of a global audience by including CloudFlare CDN (content delivery network) as well as a optimized CloudLinux backbone for increased performance.

Webhostingpad Interface & Security

Being user-friendly is important to Webhostingpad, as the brand is meant specifically for website owners on a budget without prior in-depth web hosting knowledge. As a result, Webhostingpad includes cPanel, Softaculous script installer, and RVSiteBuilder in all of their hosting plans.

Webhostingpad features

Webhostingpad’s client and billing area is based on WHM, which gives you quick and easy access over billing, site resources, and user management.

You can feel at ease with Webhostingpad’s automatic weekly backup of their servers (up to 1 GB per website), however there is a one time backup restoration fee of $39.95 needs to be paid before restoring one of their backups. For an additional $19.95 a year, Webhostingpad offers a “Backup on Demand” service that can be self-managed from cPanel.

Additional security features are available in the form of a Barracuda spam firewall ($19.95 a year), as well as Access Guardian security scan for shared customers.

Looking to start an e-commerce website? While Webhostingpad doesn’t sell SSL certificates, a free SSL certificate is included in their shared hosting Power Plan Plus plan (starting at $3.99 a month).

Webhostingpad Customer Service

Webhostingpad offers 24/7 phone, live chat and e-mail support, while there is an additional helpful knowledgebase with how-to guides and FAQs.

Unfortunately, for the low prices of budget providers you have to be somewhat wary about the level of customer service you will receive, and Webhostingpad is no exception. We gave their live chat a try on a weekday at 7 AM EST and were promptly answered within a minute, with the rep giving us a quick answer to our CDN-related question.

This isn’t conclusive, however, as customer service goes much further than a couple of simple sales questions. So to get a better idea of Webhostingpad’s customer service, we took a peak over on social media to see what prior customers have experienced. What we found next hardly came as a surprise, as we found multiple negative mentions regarding Webhostingpad’s questionable customer service.

If you want to try out Webhostingpad’s service prior to purchasing, there is a 30 day money back guarantee in place for shared hosting customers, while a somewhat meager 5 day guarantee is in place for VPS plan subscribers.

Webhostingpad Review Conclusion

I liked

  • Highly affordable shared hosting
  • Free migration and domain name
  • Bitcoin payment method

I wasn’t so sure about

  • Confusing renewal and term-based pricing
  • Backup restoration fee

I hated

  • Customer service
  • Only a 99% up time guarantee

So what are our overall thoughts on Webhostingpad’s hosting? While we think they are lacking in a few areas (namely customer service and reliability), unlimited hosting for $1.99 a month is pretty hard to find these days.

If you are a website owner just looking for somewhere to host your basic website for a low cost, Webhostingpad might be the best budget solution for you. Take advantage of their shared hosting 30 day money back guarantee and try out Webhostingpad’s service for yourself!
