Why? Because as long as we live, we have to eat. Until we turn into zombies, that is.

In each city and town, regardless of the size, there will be some restaurants. And as long as the food is decent, people will come and eat.

All is well until competition gets tougher. If you are the only restaurant serving Asian food in town, fine. People that crave for Asian cuisines will come only to you. But what if there are ten others? Or twenty?

That’s when you have to start thinking about marketing and branding. You need to be on top of the competition if you want to survive. You have to reach out to your old and new customers in any ways you can.

Websites and social media platforms are perfect for this. Combine the two, with right marketing tactics, and you get a killer marketing plan for your restaurant.

First thing first, we will need to build a website. For that, you need a domain name and web hosting. So here are 5 best hosting companies for your restaurant’s website.

Winner – HostGator – From $3.96/month

HostGator is arguably the largest hosting company in the world with over 8 million domains and 400,000 customers in their portfolio. Yup, totally a Goliath of web hosting industry. It is a choice of customers from over 200 countries, so restauranteurs, it’s hard to go wrong with HostGator.

They have been in the industry long enough to have seen all ups and downs. HostGator is well-reputed for shared hosting services, although they also offer higher end services like VPS hosting and dedicated servers. For most restaurants though, shared hosting plans will be sufficient so let’s take a look at them.

All shared hosting plans come with a 45-day money back guarantee so you can have a peaceful mind. And from our experience, they honor that money back guarantee pretty seriously. The starting shared hosting plan will cost you just $7.16 a month if you go with monthly or 6 months billing cycle. You can also pay $142.56 upfront for 3 years in advance but only do it if you are absolutely sure you like HostGator. At that price, you are only paying $3.96 a month. Seems like they have set standard pricing for affordable shared hosting plan, given that most other web hosts follow similar price range.

For all plans, you are going to get unlimited disk space and data transfer. There is a fair usage policy for system resources like CPU power and RAM, but HostGator seems to have optimized them well. We did some stress test and found that while the results can’t be compared to VPS, for shared hosting, they are pretty good. When your restaurant starts to gain more traction, you can easily upgrade to a VPS from HostGator.

2. Site5 – From $4.95/month

We would recommend Site5 in a heart beat to anyone. Some of us have been with Site5 for at least 4 years, and the experience is nothing short of spectacular. Their customer support is pretty amazing. If you want to know how amazing they are, just check out their customer support SLA. Basically, it states that if their support team doesn’t respond to you within 24 hours for your support request, they will credit your account as a token of apology. Now how awesome is that? Site5 sure as hell take their job seriously! Plus, all shared hosting plans are backed by 45 days money back guarantee.

There are quite a lot of choices when it comes to Site5. But before we go into that, let’s take a look at their infrastructure. Site5 is the home for more than 250 servers at 18 data centers in different locations. Yes, 18. They are currently serving 200,000+ domains and that is quite huge number. Although Site5 is offering unlimited resources, we are certain that they are managing their system resources very well, since all of our stress tests come out with pretty good results. They even publish all statistics about downtime and uptime of each of their servers. Not many hosts do that.

The starting shared hosting plan will cost just $4.95 a month. Even at this price point, you will get unlimited disk space and bandwidth. The control panel also comes with one-click installation for a lot of popular web apps like Joomla and WordPress so you don’t even have to worry much about setting up your website. Just install a CMS you like, get a theme for restaurant, install it, edit to your heart’s content and voila!

3. Arvixe – From $4/month

Maybe you already have an IT team or someone developing your restaurant website. Maybe you want to use ASP.NET technology from Microsoft for it. Then you will need to go with a Windows web host, which Arvixe can provide you with.

Arvixe offers shared hosting plans on two platforms: Linux CentOS and WIndows Server 2008. You can’t get one hosting plan on both though so you will have to purchase separately. And since Arvixe offers more than shared hosting and also have VPS hosting as well as dedicated severs, you can easily upgrade to them when you need.

You can pick among four shared hosting plans from two classes: Personal and Business. The names already reflect what they are for so we will skip the explanation, but if you want better optimized servers, free SSL certificate and dedicated IP address, then go with Business plans. Personal Class Linux plan will cost you $4 a month, while Windows plan will set you back for just $7 a month. You can only host 6 domains on them so if you want to host unlimited, go with Linux Plus or Windows Plus which will cost $1 each more. Business Class Linux will start from $22 while Windows plan will be $27 a month. All plans come with unlimited storage and bandwidth so you don’t have to worry about them.

4. SiteGround – From $3.95/month

What do you do when you are pissed with the status quo of an industry? Start a better company, of course! This is exactly what SiteGround di in 2003, when they were so pissed off with how many other hosting companies are treating customers. The company is well known for their customer support as well as well-optimized servers, and since they have optimized their servers for maximum performance for web apps like WordPress, Drupal and Joomla, you can easily run those apps without much problem. They are a home for over 150,000 websites too.

SiteGround even offers free Joomla templates and extensions so if you are thinking of going with it, it might be another good reason to choose SiteGround. You can also get free technical support for WordPress and Joomla too if you get stuck. It’s a bit uncommon but you should really take advantage of it.

The shared hosting plans are priced in affordable range. The plans start from only $3.95 a month. You will get unlimited disk space and data transfer. There is a one-time setup fee of $14.95 but it will be waived if you go with 12 months or longer billing cycle.

5. Omnis Network – From $5.95/month

omnis-logo

Omnis Network also offers Linux and Windows hosting plans, and they are pretty decent although there aren’t a lot to shout about. Customer support is pretty standard affair and they mostly rely on help desk and knowledgebase rather than attending to customers’ support requests swiftly. But still, they are a good host. Been around since 1999 and currently hosting over 400,00 domains.

They promise an uptime of 99.9% but there is no uptime or downtime statistics published on their website, so we cannot really gauge. WebHostingTalk and other hosting forums don’t have much topics about them either, apart from occasional complains from a customer or two. Since Omnis is targeting to budget end of hosting, maybe that’s the reason why.

They use an in-house control panel called Account Manager, which has lesser functions than cPanel or Plesk. It is quite okay though it is not as robust as cPanel. So you may be a bit disappointed if you are used to cPanel or Plesk.

Their hosting plans are called Cloud Hosting but they look awfully like shared hosting plans. Linux Cloud Hosting Plan is priced at $5.95 a month (a tiny bit pricier than other firms). For Windows hosting, it is going to set you back for $7.95 a month. Apart from the OS, both plans share same feature set, and come with unlimited data transfer and storage space.
