BlogEngine.NET is ASP.NET blogging platform which works like a charm. Sure, it is not that famous like WordPress. And it definitely has a lot smaller community too. But hey, it rocks.

BlogEngine.NET has multiple extensions, plugins and themes already developed by its community. They may not help you build ultra complex sites, but for a blog or small website for personal use or small businesses, BlogEngine.NET is good enough. And since it needs ASP.NET technology, it runs only on Windows. Perfect for .NET and Windows lovers.

It only has one tiny teeny issue. Well, it’s not the issue of BlogEngine.NET. The thing is, good Windows hosting at affordable price range are a tad hard to find. Sure, there are loads of cheap Windows hosting services but a lot of them have reliability issues.

So we need good hosting services with a right balance of affordability, reliability, customer support and stability. Fret not, because we have hand picked 5 best of them for you. Check them out after the break.

Winner – Arvixe – From $4/month

arvixe-logo

For some reasons, Arvixe is always winning the #1 spot whenever it comes to Windows hosting. For good reasons too. If you are looking for a hosting company that is good with all range of hosting services and not just specialized in one area, then Arvixe will rock your world. At Arvixe, you get not just shared hosting but also reseller hosting, VPS servers and dedicated servers. The company has been around since 2003, and as they offer both Windows and Linux hosting for shared hosting customers, it won’t be a problem to host BlogEngine.NET powered websites on it.

There are two classes in shared hosting plans – Personal Class and Business Class. You can pick either but for smaller sites like for SMBs or personal sites, we recommend you to go with Personal Class plans. Sure, you can’t expect it to handle super heavy traffic and demanding loads. But for the price you pay, you get pretty good deal. Personal Class Windows plan will cost you $5 a month. If you are interested to know, Personal Class Linux will cost you $4 a month. You will get unlimited disk space and bandwidth, and you can host up to 6 websites on an account.

Business Class plans are a lot more suited for websites expecting heavy traffic, so they are your choice if you plan on doing heavy online marketing to your sites. You will get free SSL certificate and dedicated IP address, and the accounts will be hosted on servers with better optimization. Plus more system resources will be reserved for each account. Business Class Windows plan cost $28 a month. Not a bad price for what you get.

2. myHosting – From $4.95/month

A reputable Canadian hosting company, myHosting has been in business since 1997 and now serving over 50,000 customers from 180 countries in the world. It is also a sister company to Mail2Web, a well-known email service provider for businesses. The company may not be super famous like HostGator and BlueHost, but it is definitely a good choice for shared hosting services.

But shared hosting is not the only thing they offer. myHosting offers a wide array of hosting services. You can find from shared hosting, reseller, to VPS and email hosting but their specialty is in shared business hosting. Personal shared hosting plan starts from just $4.95 a month. It is such a steal, but only Linux platform is available. The plan comes with unlimited storage and bandwidth plus a free domain if you go with yearly billing plan.

What we are interested here is in Business hosting plan, since we want to host BlogEngine.NET on Windows hosting. This hosting plan will cost you $9.95 a month, and while it looks pricier than the most, it is not just Windows hosting. Instead, it comes with a dual-platform: Linux CentOS and Windows Server 2008. Yup, your one hosting account will get two platforms of technology. So basically, you can run both open source scripts and .NET all at the same time. Gone are the needs to maintain two separate accounts. You now have access to the best of both world! What will happen is that when you want to run ASP.NET or something that needs Windows platform, it will run from Windows server. When you want to run other open source technologies like PHP, it will run from Linux servers. The plan also gives you a dedicated IP address.

If you want to run an eCommerce site (which is possible using BlogEngine.NET but we won’t recommend it), then eCommerce plan is your choice as you will get every features from Business plan, plus a free dedicated SSL certificate, private IP address and a license for Pinnacle Cart eCommerce.

3. InterServer – From $4.95/month

Interserver-logo

InterServer awes us with their really affordable VPS plans. And with 14 years of experience in the industry under their belt, we are more than inclined to recommend InterServer to anyone looking for entry-level and affordable VPS solution. You see, the web hosting industry is really saturated. Surviving in this industry is just hard. But then, surviving for 14 years tell a lot about how committed InterServer is.

VPS is not the only thing InterServer is offering. Instead, you can also find shared hosting and dedicated servers with them. Their dedicated servers are also entry-level though, and their shared hosting plan is pretty lackluster. In fact we feel the shared hosting plans are very generic and not really good enough to capture our interest. So our main interest here is in their amazing VPS server offers.

InterServer offers really affordable entry-level VPS solutions, which are pretty decent too. Usually, VPS solutions cost quite a bit. But with InterServer, things are a lot more affordable. You are only going to pay just $6 a month to get a VPS slice running Linux. Yes, it is that cheap. Price of a shared hosting service. But then as we want to host ASP.NET, we will need a Windows VPS. It is a bit pricier but still very affordable at just $22 a month (due to Windows licensing cost). With each VPS slice, you will get get 25GB of disk space, 376MB dedicated RAM and 6mbps connection (which roughly translates to around 18000MB bandwidth a month). CPU core will be 1 and it will increase by 1 every 5 slices. You can easily run your .NET applications on InterServer Windows VPS without much hassles.

4. Omnis Network – From $5.95/month

omnis-logo

Maybe you don’t want to go through the hassles of configuring a VPS. Maybe you just want a simple and cheap Windows hosting for your next BlogEngine.NET powered site. Then you should really consider going with Omnis Network. The company is well known for for their shared cloud hosting (which is similar to shared hosting in features, and in fact, it is just shared hosting with different name and perhaps a bit more robust underlying technology), Omnis Network is pretty affordable for everyone.

You can get both Linux and Windows hosting at Omnis. But it’s not like myHosting though, since you are not going to get dual-platform on one account. Instead, you will have two plans, one on Linux and one on Windows. So you gotta make your pick and stick to one. For BlogEngine.NET, the choice is clear. Both plans are also quite similar in terms of features, except that they are running on different platforms, so you don’t have to trouble yourself with choosing the features. Omnis uses their own version of control panel simply called Account Manager so you can’t really hope to get Plesk level of advance configurations to control your account though. Just enough for smaller sites.

Windows Cloud Hosting plan will cost you only $7.95 a month. It comes with unlimited bandwidth and storage, and you will get free domain name if you sign up for a year or more. Good enough to run a small BlogEngine.NET site, but not really for bigger sites.

5. MochaHost – From $2.48

mochahost

With services ranging from shared hosting, resellers hosting, VPS to dedicated servers, MochaHost has been serving budget end of market since 2003. Although they have both Windows and Linux hosting, they tend to prioritize a bit on Linux hosting when they market and advertise their website. But their Windows shared hosting is pretty okay too. One thing that surprises us is that they guarantee 100% uptime. For a budget hosting provier to have 100% uptime SLA, it’s rare.

MochaHost is also different in what they offer as risk free guarantee too. Most other companies offer either 30-day or 45-day money back guarantee. MochaHost? You can go with either 180 days risk free or 30 days money back guarantee. Money back guarantee is same as what we all know. For 180 days risk free option, you will get a pro-rated refund for your long term commitment. Like if you sign up for 2 years plan and cancel the account within 180 days, then remaining unused money will be refunded.

There are three shared hosting plans to choose from under each platform, but we won’t talk about Linux here since we are only looking at Windows hosting. Soho plan costs $2.48 a month and is pretty suitable for smaller sites. You will get unlimited disk space and data transfer, but only 10 databases and 200MB of database size in total. That’s not a lot but for small sites, it’s enough. Business plan will cost you just $3.98 a month and it seems to be better suited for medium-size website with decent traffic. If you want to do eCommerce sites or expect heavy traffic, maybe you should go with Mocha plan which cost $8.37 a month. You get unlimited databases and database size with both plans.

Conclusion

Regardless of what CMS you choose, a good hosting environment is always important. It is especially so with Windows hosting since getting a good one is a bit harder than Linux counterparts. There are a lot of good hosting firms out there though, and these 5 are definitely not the only ones. If you think you want to evaluate other options, then head on to our hosting services comparison tool and compare the plans in our database.
